Porpoise III has historical significance to sailing in British
Columbia (BC) as a very successful and competitive
racing/cruising sailboat. Not only did she win her maiden major
race, Victoria to Maui 1968, taking four of the eight trophies
offered for the event, but has been extensively used over many
years cruising the BC coastline.
Porpoise III is a custom built sloop rigged pilothouse sailing
yacht of fibreglass construction throughout, having a raked
stem, round bilges to a modified fin keel, skeg stepped rudder
and transom stern. The decks consist of a flush foredeck with
anchor windlass followed by the raised trunk cabin and side
decks leading to the large open aft cockpit. |

Stella is a 1979 production model J24 with a balsa cored, glass
reinforced plastic hull and portable manual bilge pump. It also
contains a FORESPAR tiller extension, v-berth and main salon
cushions, a LOOS rigging tension gauge and an outboard motor
bracket bolted to the transom.
More than 5,200 J24s are currently sailing worldwide. The boats
were built under strict one-design class rules which allow very
little deviation in the construction of the boat. Each boat is
built to exacting specifications, with strong and lasting
construction scantlings that allow J24's to remain highly
competitive year after year. The majority of J24's racing now
are over fifteen years old. J24s have been featured in a variety
of regattas around the world: from the North American and Pan
American championships to the European and Asia Pacific
championships. |

Inchlonaig was built in 1976. It comes from a make of yacht that
was an instant hit the moment production began. Quite aside from
her pretty lines -she looks like a 'proper yacht' - solidly
built and a good performer. From the outset the Hurley 22 was
intended to be raced as well as cruised. The unlikely
combination of a long keel and a small spade rudder proved
surprisingly effective, and former Hurley owners speak fondly of
the little boat's performance and sea kindliness. The boats have
proved themselves on long cruises; several 22s have crossed the
Atlantic, and at least one has cruised the Pacific. |
